after considering Olaf's cropping suggestion I decided to try it. What do you think? Dorys

Thank you all for the comments. I'm happy to get comments!!! :-)

Olaf/Thubleau-It's funny because I thought where I'd see the most criticism is on the reflections or how my hand shows on the top left. This shot was originally for the current CTF challenge. It was to have a crucifix on the right using a narrow DOF so it would be blurred, therefore the left orientation of the subject. However, I don't have a crucifix in the house and didn't feel like going out to buy one. Still, I like the orientation with the hint of shadow on the bottom right. Also, I didn't want a dead black background for this. The lighting give it a bit of depth.

I do appreciate the feedback. This is my first attempt at staging a shot of this complexity. I'm surprised I got it this good. :-)

To be a little more clear on how I think this should be cropped: I don't think the empty space on the right adds anything to the shot, so I would crop it off, leaving the glass horizontally centered within the frame. I would probably also snip off a sliver at the bottom. The other suggestions by Thubleau would work well too, but would require a re-shoot.

I agree with thubleau on the framing/cropping. Also, I find the background distracting. Now that you've chosen a black background, it should be black. If you set the middle RGB-slider in Levels to 0,6 (using a Levels adjustment layer), I think the background is good, but then the glass objects get a bit too contrasty. To avoid this, I would paint over the glass elements with a soft, black brush set to a low opacity on the mask of the Levels adjustment layer (also possible in Elements, I've checked). I really like the idea and I think it is well photographed - it just needs the final touches in Photoshop to really shine.

I've done the reverse of this wine into water.
It took a lot of timing and wine to get the wine hitting the water before it dispersed.
I would come tighter in on the wine glass, centre it, or got the other extreme and shoot it in landscape with a definate shadow filling the rest of the frame and falling across the table or maybe repetitive scenes of the wine glass falling over gradually and spilling it's contents.
