Red Cigarette (*)

A shot captured during a recent jazz festival, in Cully, Switzerland. This guy was standing next to a red light source, and I liked the way it gave an almost monochrome appearance to the picture.

Canon EOS 20D ,Canon EF 50mm f/1.8
1/160s f/3.5 at 50.0mm iso1600 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Markjay, I personally prefer to see the eye of the character. Cropping out the top part makes the picture look better, but I think that is due to the purple highlight being hidden at some point.

The more I look at your image Armand, the more I like the idea of experimenting with cropping the image severely so that only the portion of the mans body from below the neckline down is visible. (yes, no head!). I came to this conclusion after scrolling down my window so that part of the image was cropped out and I rather like it, personally. Is that a strange observation, or what? :-) Markjay

Markjay, thank you for your kind words. I agree that the purple highlight stands out, and initially, I liked it. Pondering your comment, I realize that I actually share your point of view: the image would be stronger without it. Thanks for sharing.

I really like this,l Amand. The angle is visually appealing and the composition is visually creative. The (*) purple highlight stands out and, does not add to the image (at least IMHO). Markjay
