Alot of the emotion that dogs can use to get food is done with the eyes... the side view kind of dampens that, I'd think.

I dunno about sad....to me this chap looks a little hungry...an interesting perspective, as most people take doggie photo's face on...the indirect look causes some ambiguity in the emotional conveyance...however, I do feel still that emotion is conveyed, so nice job! Cheers, :-D
