Thank you all for the comments. Actually the background was done with gaussian blur in PS. But now that I know more about PS I'll try to play with it some and see if I can't create a more dramatic photo.

It's a beautiful shot, but had it been mine, I would have tried to make the background a bit darker. I think the contrast people are are asking for, is really more contrast with the background? The soft light / low contrast is just right on the rose IMO. I think more contrast on the rose would ruin the nice pink tonal gradations and take away from the soft atmosphere of the photograph. --Olaf.dk

Agree with Bob. More sharpness and contrast (but not too much) would give it much greater depth and appeal. But a very nice image as-is.
