Timely Fashion
by Michael Soo

I wanted to light this watch unlike most still life shot I've ever done. I used 4 lights to obtain multiple shadows, creating a multi-dimensional look. Both hard and soft light sources were utilized along with TEN (yes, 10) bounce stripe cards (both white and black) to give it a smooth sheen on its metal circle (what the heck do you call that metal circle, anyway?)

To end it with oomph, I used multiple blending technique to give a complimentary tinge of blue on its metal circle. It's quite a bit of work, took me at least 5 hours of shooting hoot + digital darkroom time to get this image to what I envision it to be.

Enjoy,
Michael Soo

It seems the subject is the bezel and not the face, due to sharpness and contrast being best there. The numbers on the face look washed out where I'd like them to be true black, and the hands are blurred. I find my eyes settling on the bezel where I believe they should be drawn to the face. ~ Lonnit

It's certainly very crisp, but for all your work I can't help feeling it's just a little uninteresting (sorry if that sounds harsh, it's not intended to be). Phil

Excellent illustration of a beautiful time piece.

Beatiful shot, what is funny is even after all of your lighting what strikes me most is the yellow on yellow. Probably the easiest decision you had.

Oh BTW, I think the metal ring is called the bezel.
