The Binky Tree*

Frederiksberg Have, Copenhagen, Denmark

Binky, suckie, dummy, comforter, pacifier or whatever you may call it.
This is a tree in the park, where kids hang their sucking devices when
they are big enough to let go of them for good. A ceremonial event.

My daughter took one look at this picture and remarked that she wished this tradition would take hold at her school. Mind you, she's in highschool. In her previous school, a fad started where the students would suck on these things. The fad went away, and now it's come back at highschool. I guess it's one thing that's not against the dress code. -- Victor

That's a very sweet tradition. In Sweden those things hand in solitude here and there, people pick them up on pavements after some kid had dropped them and hang them up so that they don't get trodden on. Along with lost gloves and the occasional sock or two.
This picture has a Christmassy feeling somehow. Great dof, good colors.

What an interesting tradition. I have another word for you: susie. I looked it up on dictionary.com, and it wasn't there. Perhaps the term is limited to the family, but I'd thought it was commonly used. -- Victor
