Mark, You are correct. Reflections were my biggest challenge. The shot was from straight down to add more of a graphic nature of the picture. Therefore the isolated domino did not have any reflection. The other dominos were are many different angles and reflections were hard to control. In the end I agree with Olaf that it really added life to the picture. Thank for the insightful comments. theFly
In response to MarkJay's excellent comment, I am one of those who prefer seeing the texture and reflections in this shot - IMO, it adds "life" to the shot! --Olaf
I like your idea and, the composition and crop is very suitable for this image. The dominos are arranged in perfect composition! For me, I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my "studio shots", probably excessively :-)
So, my "shooting tip" for the day is: watch your reflections. Notice how some dominoes are exhibiting good contrast of the white dots against the black area, and others have reflective texture appearing? you can Cut down on the reflective nature of the dominos by changing the angle on which they sit and / or changing the angle from which you take the photograph. That having been said, there are others who will feel (and rightly so) that the textures on those dominos are appealing to them (personal preference). Thank you for sharing this great image with us. Thanks Bill! Olaf, I have enjoyed viewing the CSLR Challenges since the start. I happened to start posting for this challenge because I took the picture of the Winery on a day triop and really felt it fit the challenge. I shot the domino picture specifically for the challenge. Glad you like it.
I hope to get a 10d or 300d for Christmas.
By the way, I am also an architect, I have also really enjoyed reading some of your comments on the different pictures, it really reminded me of crits in school. theFly
