I just noticed: not only is her head at the intersection point of the shadows - so is the reflection of the sun - or she's a saint! Double up on my amazement! --Olaf

Hi Olaf, I was waiting patiently for the lady to climb the stairs and somehow managed to catch her at the exact moment at the shade before she disappeared behind the glass. I thought that leaving her in color and everything else in black and white would help her in her fight for attention against the steel roof. However, changing the image back to color and including the sky color cleared the things considerably. Thanks! --Roumen

Hey, we were writing at the same time! Thanks for your explanation - as I said things are clearer now - and it made me notice the all important human element! Thanks for the link to the exterior of the building - Yup that is definitely inspired by the de-constructive influences in the field of architecture... --Olaf.dk

Roumen, I see you've changed this to color. If I remember correctly, you'd left the colorful bag the girl is wearing in color, but not the girl herself. To be honest, I didn't even notice her in the black and white version and was wondering what that colored element really was - I thought it was some artwork LOL! Due to the contrasting colors, she now really steps forward as a crucial element in the composition. I really like that she is present in the image and her placement right at the intersection of the shadows is amazing... What were your thoughts/reasoning behind B&W vs. color? --Olaf.dk

Hi Olaf, the image is from the Fox building at the Maryland Institute College of Art:http://image.pbase.com/u41/kost/upload/33303586.IMG_1288. From the outside it is a clean form, all glass, sharp angles building. However, looking from inside the building, the supporting metal frame is exposed and every connection can be seen. I don’t think that the architect thought as much how its creation will look from inside compared to its look from outside. The stairs in the image are in the middle section of the building, where there is a formed pyramid. Many of the steel elements probably have purely mechanical rather than esthetic function, like the reinforced steel frame in front. In this image I was intrigued by the complexity of the framework inside, needed to support the clean form outside. Also I changed the image to color to make things easier to see. Thanks! --Roumen

Roumen, I think it's obvious that it was intentional. I have a preference for harmony and order, others strive to express the chaos and disharmony in the world around us. This was an ongoing debate when I attended the school of architecture - whether to reflect our time with disharmonious de-constructivist designs or try to make the world how we'd like it instead. As I said, I would be in the second camp... --Olaf

Olaf, this was my intention. Since the main ellements were lines with various tonalities I
tried to include them pointing in as many directions as possible. -Roumen

A bit too chaotic, in my opinion, but I'm sure that is just a matter of individual tastes. --Olaf
