Why do I feel compelled to jump on the crop bandwagon? LOL! I'd crop a bit further to make her arm lie on the bottom third line. As for the chopped hand, not a biggie in my book. To me it was obvious (and then confirmed) that she was closing the window. Great eye you had to capture the precisely perfect moment. :) Lovely lighting, nice story. :) ~ Lonnit

Anna, forgot to add that I had downloaded your pic and cropped it just below the right hand and thought it made a difference which is why I suggested the cropping.......

Anna, hope you don't mind me suggesting the further cropping but to me, this is such an amazing photograph with the most perfect lighting and I feel that it can be made flawless with just a little bit of cropping and hence the suggestion. Hope its okay.

Much, much better Anna, hope YOU like it like this. One more suggestion, if again I may, and am going to second Olaf on this, it would be better cropped just below the right hand where the bowls begin so that none of the bowls show either. IMHO that would be better but see how YOU like it and go with that. Cheers.

Vikas.

Heh, those in favor of cropping are winning, so here goes. The original is below. Thanks again for the suggestions. You guys (gals) are great! /Anna

I agree with Vikas - simplifying helps the image. I would crop just below her right hand and clone out the thin sliver of table and top coffee cup, still in the image after the crop, cloning from the dark background above the table. Probably would also crop a liiitle bit on the top for balance. --Olaf

A simply stunning shot, perfect lighting, really very very nice. The arm not showing fully doesn't bother me at all, however, if I may, would love to see this shot without the bottom bowls/plates (would make this shot perfect IMHO), just her looking out of the window. Nevertheless, a fabulous shot..... Vikas.

Shh Anna - don't take away the mystery! I didn't hear what you said - tra-la-la-la la! [What was my first guess, again?] --Olaf
Anna Yu08-Aug-2004 02:10
She was just closing the window, Olaf. There was a sudden downpour that day.

Biggest asset in this photo is the lighting - absolutely wonderful! About the clipped hand - I am not so sure: As it is here, it makes me wonder what she is doing - there is a bit of mystery and room for interpretation. If the hand were in the frame would the mystery be gone or would it be a stronger image telling a story? I don't know, I wasn't there. What was she doing - closing the window? Watering a flower on the sill? Rearranging? --Olaf

You're right, Roberta, that amputated hand bugs me too. But it's too late now, gone is gone :-)
I should have just turned the camera.

Anna,
The lighting on her face and clothing is beautiful. I'd like to see the hand as well.

Reminds me of a Vermeer painting--very nice.

An iteresting twist on the head and shoulders. It shows action, and the environment... great picture. I love the light.

LOL... I guess my objection has been overruled. At least I found a way to generate comments on a photo. BTW I still love this photo. - Byron

I wasn't distracted rather intrigued by the story this image conveys here. Nice use of available light! I like how you've showed little bit of that window and not completly framing her entire arm. It gives the viewer a sense of what she is upto without distracting details. Nicely done.

Superb shot! The lighting is absolutely wonderful... don't change a thing!

The bowls add interest and color to the shot. I like it just the way it is. Shu

I dunno, Byron, I kinda like the stuff on the table, gives a bit of balance to the picture.
Canon DSLR Challenge04-Aug-2004 07:09
I really liked this image. The lighting is great. The only problem is my eye gets drawn to the bowl at the bottom. Maybe a bit more crop so you only see half the bowl or a gaussian blur over the bottom area might help. Otherwise... great photo. -Byron
