I didn't mean to imply that for a hands challenge the hands must be in focus. However, if they are not in focus, there should still be a good reason for including the picture in the challenge.

For example, with this image, I can imagine myself in a conversation with this man. When having a conversation, people typically look into each others' eyes, hence the eyes should be in focus. The folded hands indicate the man is not preoccupied with something else, but as the title suggests, is listening intently. This sort of body language cue is something we all pick up on subconsciously.

Anyway, I was curious what particular reason you had for considering this a hand picture. Was it something like I just described, or something else? -- Victor

I don't know, Victor, if in a "Hands" challenge the hands really *must* be in focus (as you say). In this picture the hands are out of focus, and so on purpose, but they are—nevertheless—an important part of the image; important enough for me to show this picture in this challenge. Obviously the photo was not shot for the challenge (it is displayed, mind you, in the "exhibition" category); but I feel it stands here in its own right. To make my point clear, I'll upload another picture "Mother And Son" , where the hand, though in focus, is just a *very* small part of the picture, but fundamental for the message to come through. Let me know your thoughts about it! —db.

I really like how you've captured the face, but since this is a hand challenge, shouldn't the hands be in focus? If not, can you explain? -- Victor
