When Giants Roamed *
by Teapot
1st Place

This shot was taken at sunrise at the Giant's Causeway on the north Antrim coast of Northern Ireland.
This causeway is probably the most famous landmark in the north of Ireland and is made up of 5, 6, 7 and 8 regular sided stones which were formed by cooling lava.

There are many local legends to the formation of the causeway by the giant Finn McCool.

Is this a composit? You've got a nice exposure in the sky and also in the rocks. I see a glow at the horizon line - is that the transition of 2 shots or is it jpg artifacting? Beautiful scene! ~ Lonnit

Did anyone comment that this great image of stones leading to the horizon also look like old tires? (Dare I say that?) The sky tries to brighten the mood, sort of like a story with a happy ending. Shu

Dramatic and stunning shot. 2 small wishes from me would be to straighten out the horizon slightly and to bring it up from the middle. A bit of sunlight to brighten up a patch of the lava stones would have been great too, but I guess that would have been difficult.
Hope you don't mind me being in a critical mood this morning. I only do that on the shots I like!

Thanks Stonemonkey. Would love to do a reshoot of this for the eligible gallery but sunrise is at 4:30am and I'm not that keen I think when I took this in October I was there before 7:00am.

Love the sky - very atmospheric. It draws you out along the causeway.
