Glass & Light
by Angela Johnson
6th place

I ordered a 12x18 Lightbox a few days ago
(you know, those things you look at slide film on)
and experimented a little today with it.

Wine glasses and little fake ice crystals.

PS was a slight curves adjustment and framing.

I'm a little concerned that this doesn't quite
portray what the challenge is about this time.
Please let me know if it's not "eligible"
and I'll move it out :)

This is your first "real studio" type shot, no? Very excellent! ~ Lonnit

Very nice Angela! I notice you are expanding your light sources: First the flashlight and all those lovely painted-with-light shots and now a lightbox. I imagine we are going to see this being used more in the future? I do LOVE your naturally lit photographs though, so please don't forget about daylight, OK? (As if there were any risk of that!) --Olaf

Why wouldn't it be eligible with backlighting such as this? Excellent stuff as per norm. Glass is often perceived as a tricky subject, and this is just about the best way to light it.

But I DO so admire the people who have the patience for RAW! I can't even imagine sifting through hundreds of RAW files to find the one I want to process. Amazing. :)

I hardly ever shoot RAW because it takes too long to do anything with it. I enjoy figuring out ways to do the crazy ideas I have in camera ... I'm lazy ;)

I think it fits perfectly Angela and I love it. I like the blue you introduced. Do you ever take pictures in raw format? I think you could get the same effect with post processing of a raw file. I use Capture 1 and like it very much. Ann C

Craig, the blue is from a custom white balance. I wanted a cooler feel to this one so I put my camera in cloudy WB, took a shot of the lightbox itself (I knew the cloudy WB would render the white a bit warm) and then used that to set a custom white balance. It worked, I got a slight blue feel to it, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

I think it fits, and it's a beautiful shot. I love the reflections and refractions on the fake ice. Where did the blue colors come from?

Lovely crisp image Angela and certainly fits with the theme, after all, its all about light isn't it? Great shot................ Vikas

I like this one best of your images so far - very crisp image, with color tone that goes well with the fake ice. Keep it! -Ed Hahn
