Gayle, sorry for putting a comment under your image without a word about it! I don't have much to add though, to what has already been said, except that I agree, and also: I think this is really spot on topic [like your treasure shot is, (same definition)]! One more thing: I seem to have a weak spot for images where the shadows just fade into a black background like this one. Well done! --Olaf

Camptown your comment about us people with kids having an unfair advantage, I just HAD to reply to. Before I had a child, I used to think I didn't have much time for myself and my free-time interests. Now I realize how much "me-time" I really had. That is the unfair advantage you people without kids have over us with kids! --Olaf

Very nice shot, and a good idea. You people with kids have an unfair advantage ;)

Wow. Very nice job.

I would like to see more of her eye, it's a very distracting to have it partially covered by her hair. Also, perhaps you should clone out some of the loose strands around her face?

You nailed the exposure perfectly! The sparkler is such a strong element you could even clone out the face and it'd still be an amazing picture!

You did a nice job with this, Gayle. I think most kids to like sparklers and, it keeps your kids attention on the subect while you are photographing them. Markjay

Thanks for the comments. Bry had a great time doing this pic, and I'm definitely making the most of it while she's willing. At age 10, she loves being my model, at age 14 she probably won't!
Portraits my thing? Hmmmmm....maybe photos of people might be my thing, but posed studio portraits definitely aren't :-)

Sooner or later your daugher will tire of being your model... which will give us all a better chance! Lovely shot as always Gayle. Do I take it you now think portraits *are* your thing? Phil

That's really nice with the light from the sparkler illuminating her face. Can't think of one thing to change in this one. Great.
