Reflections of a Former Rider
by johnebones
8th place

An operating room light-box is reflected in a motorcycle helmet visor.

The x-ray image is of a tibia fracture repaired with stainless steel plate and screws.
A line of skin staples can be seen running from the knee joint to the bottom of the plate.

Great shot! This should be submitted to a medical newsletter! ~ Lonnit, who finally understands your screen name! LOL!

Wow, thanks Mark !
This was taken with a Sony 707. (I haven't figured out how to get low-light shots like this with my 10D yet). The xray film is on a viewbox, reflected in my helmet which has a yellow-tinted mirrored visor. And you are correct, the final digital image was made with visual light and not 'X' (bremstralung) irradiation. Ha ! BTW, I love your work and I'm honored by your comments. -john (ebones)

Hey doc, your image is spectacular! I find this image to be very striking and...should / could be used in a "wear your helmet" safety campaign. I can't get over how crisp and clear the image is... great. Surely, you didn't use your X-Ray machine lens to do this one, did you? lol WOuld appreciate your sharing your camera and lens used for this image Markjay

Thanks for your comments. Joe, its my helmet and I do ride a street bike, but the xray belongs to one of my patients. -johnebones

Took me a minute to recogize what's in the reflection, but when I did, I think my word was "Damn!" Potent image with strong, graduating tones. Crisp, clear. Damn! Should be a poster. Big poster. Your knee or a client's, Doctor of Bones? --Joe

Good concept. Strong image bang on topic. Like this one a lot.

Great image, love the way all the black isolates the story element.
Not that I particularily like to be reminded of the risks, I'm just about to take my bike out for spring. :-)

Ouch. My friend just had this very same surgery after falling of his bicycle. Nice picture.
