This is the stairwell in my office building.
The picture is a couple of days too old so I
plan to re-shoot this weekend and then move
it to the eligible gallery.

EDIT: Re-shot for inclusion in Eligible.
The perspective isn't quite as dramatic as
the original, but this is what I got today.

Note: The full EXIF displayed by PBase is
incorrect as I uploaded a new image and PBase
kept the original info. An EXIF viewer should
show that this image was shot March 13th.

what a wonderful stairway!

Congratulations! I see my comment never posted for some reason (oh, maybe I posted it in the voting thread). I particularly like the alternating white and yellow spirals. -- Victor

Very nice staircase shot. It's not often you see a "spiral" staircase that has a flat side. You got my vote!

I am always intrigued by this sort of image of a stairway. This one is outstanding in its great colors and lighting, and by the borders of gold and white which really dramatize. It had been framed and shot perfectly. Congratulations on a stunning image!

I've been searching for such a beautiful stairway for the last two years without success... very very very cool!

Really like this the image draws you in and the way the rail acts like a frame is great.

Great colour and perspective and well composed. Looks a bit of a scary drop... Phil

Hej Anna!
It was a bit scary with the long drop, I secured the camera with the neck strap around the handrail just in case. I had to extend the tripod very far over the rail so it was a bit unstable. The bigger problem though was that I'm not very good with heights :-) so it was "interesting" to stand looking down the stairwell.

Superb (now why haven't I done this before?). One question Anders, was it difficult/risky to balance the camera on a tripod in midair a million stories up?
Canon DSLR Challenge15-Mar-2004 21:02
Again thanks for the kind words. I'll gladly take some credit for the composition and postprocessing, but the scene was simply there for the taking. Sometimes I think it would make more sense to use money on trips to exotic places or tickets to cool events rather than spend more on gear...

This is a great image. I've probably viewed it 100 times .. each time green with envy. The wood on the rail combined with the color of the steps just makes it so rich. wonderful shot and composition.

Good that you reshot this one Anders. It is superb and certain to be a winner! Ann C

Ralph, thanks! It seemed I would need as much DOF as possible for this one, that's why the long exposure...

Thanks Roberta! The PBase exif information is incorrect. I initially entered a similar picture in Exhibition as it was a couple of days too old. To not lose the comments that had been posted I then replaced the image by uploading today's re-shoot, and moved it to Eligible. Apparently PBase keeps all info from the original image. If you download this image and examine the EXIF it should read March 13th.

Alan - I don't mind at all, on the contrary!
Please see my comment to your picture!

I did a double-take when I saw your original version in "Exhibition" the other day, becuase it look so much like a shot I had taken a year or so ago in New Orleans. I've posted that one over in Exhibition, I hope you don't mind. Yours is unquestionalby the superior photo, very nice work! Alan Hartmann

Earl, Olaf, I appreciate your kindness. This re-make didn't quite get there compared to the original image, but I don't think I'll have time to go back yet again. I tried to center the stairwell, but I instead lost the more dramatic wide-angle perspective on the left side. Oh well... uhh, sorry, bad joke! :-)

The fact that this kind of shot must have been done a zillion times before, doesn't make this one any less appealing. In fact, you have done very well here, and so has the architect who planned it! I am with the other guys who prefer this one over "Up". IMO, the warm tones and the fanning lines of the steps adds that little extra that gives it an edge over the "Up"-shot. --Olaf

What a fantastic image. If your re-shoot comes out as nice as this one, I expect you to place high in the voting. This image is my favorite of the two stair shots. It feels very warm and the contrast of the smooth hand rail to the edgy steps works very well for me. I really like this image. E-

Thanks everyone for your nice comments!
Looks like I really should go re-shoot this picture... :-)

So I can't really say which I like more unlike the rest of the commenters. THe color in this is fabulous and so is the continuous line that goes down the stairs... but I really like the simplicity of the other one too. Both fabulous IMHO. Ann C

I like the stairwell shots. This one works best for me. Particularily like the top curve leading the eye down and into the spiral.
