* King of Corona by Lonnit Rysher

Corona, Queens, NY

The sleeping gentleman is the famous "King of Corona" as in the "Lemon Ice King" famous italian ices. If you watch the TV show "King of Queens", the opening of the show has the couple walking up to the ices stand, buying ices, and then the ices fall to the ground as he starts to eat it. The couple is at this ices stand.

This was taken about 2 years ago with my Oly 3030 point-n-shoot. It was the best picture I took with that camera. It's been hanging on my wall and I've always loved it. Now I understand why - the subject is interesting, it's humorous, and it's composition is set perfectly on the thirds grid and it uses leading lines.

Lonnit, it is not that it is terrible as is - sorry if I gave you that impression! I just found it a real shame that the frame should prevent the outstanding photograph from coming across at its full potential. I don't dislike all your frames, but there have been several times, where I have thought that I would have preferred a different one. I think I did comment on it once before (another photo)...

When it comes to colors, it is hard to find just two people with the same opinion. I guess it is similar with frames, so the following is just an explanation of my personal preferences: I prefer simple frames that do not compete for attention (take attention away from the photo or artwork they are framing). I don't care for too many "effects" like gradients and soft-shadows, especially if they look too obviously computer generated. Boldly colored frames can have the same attention-stealing effect, but sometimes picking up a color from the photo or artwork can be very effective. --Olaf

I'm glad you liked the shot. As for the frame, I'm sorry you didn't. The shot is actually hung on my wall, very nicely framed with a white mat and simple black frame. :) Do you dislike all my frames or do you just not like it when I deviate from my standard one?

Thanks for the input. :) ~ Lonnit

Lonnit, that's a great shot! I would have liked to see more pixels of it (larger image)! I think the lettering and framing detracts from the picture though - could have been done more tastefully. This presentation looks like a cheap poster and imho, it should be presented like the piece of art that it is! To give an example of what I think is a successful digital frame, I'll ask you to look at this photo by Jing He: www.pbase.com/image/26110708. I do believe that a frame like that would have worked very well with this shot as well. I am telling you this because I really think it is a pity when your shots don't get presented on the same high level of talent as the photos themselves. I hope that it will be well-received as constructive criticism (*). --Olaf
