2nd Place
Mostly Gold
by Joe Reilly

Apologies in advance, as I know that (a) my daughter is wearing out her welcome, and (b) this is not *per se* a portrait Challenge (*sMiLe*). I beg your indulgence. Not planned for this Challenge, but nearing relevance...

Craig: Not an act of planning, but recognition. This was a spur-of-moment candid, when the background, my daughter, and her cherished journal collided nicely with Challenge 9. I just pressed the button. As the saying goes, "f/8 and be there"! --Joe

The background for this shot works extremely well, and I would never have thought to try it. So thanks, again, for a useful tip.

Beautiful photo. Beautiful smile. It's funny... I really like seeing the familiar faces in the challenges. I feel like I'm getting to know some you and your families one photo at a time. Joe, this one needs to be on your wall. Great photo. E-

Excellent image.

However on my monitor the catch lights look a little weird. They look like very small black mouse pointers with white around them... But still very excellent!

Worn out her welcome? Are you mad? I for one love seeing her adorable smile, and Joe, your portraiture is gorgeous. The soft tones in this are lovely. Her expression is one to melt hearts! -- angela :)

Joe, this is lovely and your daughter is so beautiful that I don't think she'll ever wear out her welcome :-)
Not much more to say....everyone else has said it so well.

Super composition and great portrait. The expression, turn of the head, and face framed by hair and book are just right. -- R.J. (Imager)

Joe,
I agree with Rob~ everyone enjoys seeing her sweet face and gorgeous eyes! The colors are very approriate for the challenge and demonstrate how complementary colors can enhance an image. The cool purple contrasts beautifully with the warm tones of her hair and the background. The diagonal created by her eyes and the tilt of her head forming another diagonal make a lovely composition. Keep shooting~ she's a doll! Roberta
