2nd place *Waiting
by Scott Hopkins

I wanted to try a different take on the opposite theme. I passed this bus stop many times and always thought about how ironic it is to have a sign about refusing to wait at place that is all about waiting. This became an idea of an opposite in thought...waiting vs. action.

It maybe a stretch for this challenge, but I do find it interesting...

And for those who know my personality should smile a little.

Funny and thoughful. Sell it.

I like it with the bus stop sign in the image. Lets the viewer know that this man is indeed waiting, and not just sitting there. Actually, to me, the bus stop sign is essential! --Olaf

Mark,

That is funny, the original crop I made did not have the sign. I moved it into view because I liked it a little better that way I thought it grounded the picture a little. I never thought of it the way you have. It is a good idea, I may have to go back to it after the challenge ends.

Hi Scott,

I keep looking at this image because I like it so much. If I could make one suggestion,, I think the image would be more universal if the Bus Stop sign was removed. The Bus Stop sign gives the image placement but I think without it the viewer is left to wonder where this man might be, is he waiting at a bus stop, train stop, the gate to heaven, or to hell. This could be an image within his own mind as he ponders how his lack of action has left him marooned in the desert of life.

Just a thought.

Mark,

Thanks, the noise was added post process. I really do not like the look of the noise from digital cameras so if I have an idea that needs noise I try for a low ISO setting and then add it later.

The logbook idea is great!! I have been waiting to do the same thing or even a sketchbook with some simple drawings of ideas. I don't know how many ideas that I have forgotten.

Dear Scott,

Better start picking the next subject. This is incredible. I have been getting into the habit of keeping a log book of items like your sign here that I think might be handy for a shot someday. Is the grain natural or did you add some. I ask because I think it makes the shot. A perfect example of when not to use Neat image.

Dear Scott:

I Think that the Image is just fine for Opposites...but a query, Who is the Gentleman waiting? You? A Model? A random person? Just Curious.

Best Wishes,

Traveller
