I keep looking at it as well. But then, I'm hopelessly heterosexual :)

I've got to admit this doesn't shout opposites at me, but that hasn't stopped me looking at it nearly every time I've been in the gallery. The expressions are great and the tight crop with the black bakdrop throws the girls out of the picture. A marvellous candid.

Dear Craig:

I'm not so sure that you needed to post any explanation....obviously these are two human beings with very different reactions to whatever was going on.

Nice Shot.

Best Wishes,

Traveller

It was the Observatory festival (Mardis Gras) in Cape Town on Saturday 6th Decemeber.

If this was a mardi gras picture, how is the date of the photo in December?

Im glad you find it interesting. After your first question I realised that I should have included a little comment with the picture. Indeed the picture has opposites on many levels. My main hobby is the taking of candid shots, capturing of people and emotions.

I see, thanks for the explanation - very interesting! I guess the information I was missing was that it was a candid shot. I wasn't too far off in my second comment! I like it, and with your explanation, it is even more interesting, revealing of human character. --Olaf

I was hoping the title would tell the story. It is a totally candid shot of the two woman taken at a mardis gras. The woman are very much alike in terms of dress, hairstyle, age etc but are completely opposite in their reaction to a camera being pointed at them and a photo taken. I was on street level and both woman were staring down at me, and as I raised the camera the one on the left needed to check the reaction of her friend to this impromptu photo shoot. So it merely shows they are 'alike' on the surface but very opposite in reaction.

Oh, is it that the girl to the right is so serious while the girl to the left is the opposite? --Olaf

Craig, this is an interesting image, but I don't understand what the opposites are? Maybe I'm just thick-headed! --Olaf
