The Play of Light and Shadow*
by Olaf.dk

The Jonas Salk Institute, San Diego, California

This is one of my favorite architectural shots, I have a 16x24" (40x60cm) print hanging on my wall.
In my view, the shadows are an integral part of the success of this abstract composition.

This building complex, designed by the famous architect Louis Kahn, is considered to be a milestone in the history of Architecture. Before I'd seen it in real life, I couldn't understand why. From photos, I thought it was a cold and inhumane structure, so the impact on me when I experienced it in real life was a great surprise! I was especially surprised by the concrete walls having almost the same qualities of warmth and elegance as that of the travertine "floor".

I like this show, Olaf. My eyes keep dancing around the image, courtesy of the contrasts of light and dark forming lines and shapes. Nice job. Mark J

I like how there is a spiral formed out of all the straight lines.

Do you mean Edward? His paintings are pretty powerful, but I would never hang one of those on my wall - too depressing or something. Anyway, thanks! --Olaf

Hopper would be proud.
