Astounding result esp for a macro newbie. Or are your bees so much bigger than mine? -tv

Excellent capture Ed. The 60mm EF-S is the highest scoring EF-S lens at the F&M customer reviews. It delivers fantastic sharpness and detail. As a portrait lens, the USM autofocus is excellent, but for Macro, manual focus is essential. It's not that THIS lens can't cope with AF, but in a Macro there is so much that could be the focus, for your composition, only you can decide what you think should be the focus. With this lens you can quickly get to 90% focus with a quick twist, and then the final 10% with a subtle body movement. It's a wonderfully interactive way of Image capture and since I moved to full frame with a 5D, the 60 EF-S is the only lens on my 20D. It's the reason I didn't sell my 20D.

Ditto to all the previous compliments. Really an astoundingly sharp and lovely capture.

An excellent macro. Bees can be really hard to catch that well! I love all of the colors in this, and the composition is very pleasing. You also nailed the focus just right IMO. I agree entirely with your comments about manual/auto focus with macros. I've left a far-too-long comment about macro focusing below under my shot. I hope you love your 60 as much as I've loved mine. It's the sharpest, and funnest lens I own! Jim H.

This is lovely, Ed. I like the 'clearness' of the eye. I don't remember ever seeing that before. ~Lydia

Traveller: from all that I have read this lens will auto focus, but if you are too close to the subject you need to manually focus the lens. I believe that this is true of most macro lenses. If anyone knows more about focusing up close with macro lenses, please give me a shout. Thanks - Ed.

Ahh, why manual focus? Is this true only of this lens or all macro work? Curious....why won't the AF simply do the focus? Best Wishes, Traveller

Thank you folks for all of your kind words. I am enjoying this lens. I have very little experience with manual focusing. Since I wear eye glasses, I must keep them on when focusing manually. Usually I don't use my eye glasses when using my camera.
So, macro work offers a new challenge to me.
Thanks again - Ed.

Excellent shot - extra sharp and the colors are wonderful. I have 100.0 mm Macro - excellent lenses too but I have to admit that making good macro shots is still my unrealized dream.
