Just amazing.

Still, as in peaceful, calming, little wind,at sunset the clouds look more dramatic and filled with rain but in reality it is very dry in S.A. until this week when it poured but we only had a few drops in the time we spent there.

This is beautiful and dramatic, but still?

Flare is handled just slightly better by the 17-40, while the 16-35 II has less corner CA. The 17-40 L has a bit less barrel distortion at 17mm than the 16-35mm L II has at 16mm but the 16-35 has less at 20mm. The 16-35 has slightly more pincushion distortion at 35mm.

If you are shooting wide landscapes with narrow apertures, the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM Lens will save you a lot of money as both lenses are sharp corner-to-corner at f/11. If you are shooting at wider apertures on a full frame body, the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM Lens will definitely be worth the upgrade. If you want the best of these lenses, the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM Lens is it.

not sure what you mean melbob.
they both suffer from bad distortion at the ends, price difference is double for a f/stop ?

Fantastic light and colours! A beautiful and calming scene. -Kuivaamo

Rich colours and great depth of field Eric.

The 5D really shows the 17/40 in a different light... only then can one see the reason for the 16/35 f2.8 price difference.

It is a great combination though. ~ Regards Melbob

What a gorgeous scene! The colors are outstanding and as was mentioned before, this gives the feeling of the calm before the storm. Lovely! CJ

I have the 16-35mm lens and I'm glad to hear that someone else has experienced a similar reaction to the ultra wide angle on the full frame!! (it is kind of weird)
Stunning colors you've captured here - the camera did it proud, I imagine, along with your excellent eye. Loverly, loverly, details as well. Great work.

This was my first real excursion with the 5DMK2 even though I have had it since March it was sitting in a suitcase in Taiwan Until April 2nd.
I managed 964 shots in 7 days and marvelled at my 17-40 lens for the first time although distortion got pretty bad if you had the subject in a corner of the lens.
My partner. asked me why I was shooting so close to her face.
It was only then I lifted my eye from the viewfinder to find her face a few feet from the lens, but I love the the way it creates that feeling of having a foot right in the camera lens and the face seven feet away.
Colours just looked brilliant .

Welcome back! What an amazing range of colours from the yellow/orange in the foreground to the deep purples in the sky and clouds. All definitely very "still" in this image, yet with certain sense of foreboding (for me at least), as if some type of storm might erupt in the not too distant future. Beautiful! Regards Nico

Wonderful light and colors here, Thubleau. I also like the way you left the stalks from the mowed field in the foreground, as they're an important element in this image.
