Also this one is great, I do not know which one I prefer

Thanks Mr Melbob... and I'll pass on your compliment to Julie for sure! :-)

Thanks, Michael, you are way too kind! Nope, I have a real job... this is just a hobby, I promise! :-) Kind regards Nico

Nico this is a work of a master! I say this with some envy as I have watched your skill develop over the recent years since I've been lurking around here. You've taken studio photography to a new level. Do you do this professionaly or is it "just" a hobby?

Regards, Michael

I think this is an excellent portrait Nico, good DOF providing sharp detail in her eye and sufficient detail right back to her fingers.

Beautiful balanced shading, lovely skin tone and very expressive.

Thanks for details of your lighting setup, the honeycomb filter/beauty dish are fabulous for this work and you put them to work professionally Nico.

Congratulations to Julie, she really knows how to complement a beautiful model.

Regards Melbob

Thanks, Michael, for the kind words... and Lee, for the feedback.

Traveller, you've got me there. I am not sure that I can offer much of an explanation. Matt nail polish? :-) Only kidding. You can see some reflection on the nail of the finger closest to the hot spot. She is basically looking straight into the light, placed about 90 degrees to the right of the camera - and the light is extremely directional - so perhaps that is just how the angles of reflection worked out? Sorry that I cannot be more helpful. Regards Nico

Why is there no Flash Reflection off her painted fingernail, as there is off the black plastic of the earphones? That's what throws me. Lovely though, Traveller

I don't find the hot spot on the head phones distracting in context of this challenge. It highlights the subject for the challenge.

The reflection looked like a beauty dish vs a soft box.

Very professional use of lighting and camera Nico, as always. Regards - Michael

Well, now I know what my problem is. Instead of a Beauty Dish I've been using an Ugly Dish...Duh! ;^) -dtallakson

Thanks, guys. I think Surita did excellently - her first photoshoot ever!

Lee, yes a beauty dish (with a honeycomb front) was the main light. I added a hair light and another on the black backdrop to create some separation. I did not like the strong reflection on the headphones, but could not figure out how to get rid of it. Any ideas?

Regards Nico

Nico,

Nice shot. Was it taken with a beauty dish?
