Playing card box

When my father passed last year I inherited (amongst other things) this beautiful box that had my attention since I was a child.

The cards are from RMS Edinburgh Castle, my father bought these cards during one of his journeys from England to South Africa.

Love the box, it looks very Japanese, nicely captured.

I really like the way you framed this, the picture instantly made me want to know the history behind it, thanks for sharing both. John (picks2592)

Thank you CJ and Bob for your comments. The box is a very intricate inlay, very beautifully made. I regret not getting the story behind the box as almost everything my father had had an interesting story attached. It was in pieces so spent part of the weekend fixing it.

Great Michael, something so special about things that 'grab' you from the past. So nice to share your special feelings.

It is a beautiful card box and wonderfully presented.

Terrific post ~ Regards Melbob

What a nice memento of your father's Michael! I love the old pattern on the box, is it inlaid? Great picture of an old cruise ship on the cards too. CJ
