Frozen in Time

Wales, UK

Picture, taken in my garden early on a very cold and frosty morning, of a little garden decoration (a bug on a bicycle) that is stuck in the ground amongst a normally green plant. I like this picture because the frozen plant and the bug seemingly frozen in motion seem to convey a frozen moment of time.

Canon EOS 40D ,Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
f5.6 @ 55mm, 1/200, ISO 400. Exposure -1.3. Minimal processing (some usm). full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

What you have to do is just play with PS....a lot. To be truthful, this often is not fun, but, by entering the Challenges you get motivated to try this or that. I like the color and contrast....However, I do generally use curves, as opposed to levels, on every shot I do.

But, I shoot in JPEG too.

Thanks very much Traveller, I very much appreciate the feedback. I recently obtained CS4 extended, and a 15 hour video tutorial course on using it. Whilst I know how to do the very basics (such as levels based on the histogram and usm) I wish my knowledge extended to increasing the colour saturation of the bug and bicycle as I think the overall effect would then have been better.

It seems to me that using the magic wand in CS would be too difficult given the complexity of the shape of the object (but of course I could be wrong). Perhaps manipulation of curves might help? I don't know as my knowledge does not extend that far yet. Time to start that video course...

Thanks very much. Dogmai.
