Beech

Latin: Fagus sylvatica forma Purpurea. Direct translation of the Norwegian name is "blood beech". Red foliage in the spring, darkening to a shiny brown in late summer.

Thanks all. The leafs are backlit by the sun, that's what draws the white'ish outlines.

The 400mm is great for flower pics and closeups. Narrow DOF, good bokeh.
Bob; the 1.6 crop factor just means smaller images.. The 400mm isn't a 640mm on a 20D.. it's still a 400mm. But the camera captures a smaller part of the image the lens has to offer than a full format camera would. Anyway - I didn't do *further* cropping here :)

Gorgeous color. And great use of focus depth to isolate a subject that would otherwise be very busy. I like the light lining th eedges of hte leaves too. Nice :)

Spectacular colours K2 I can imagine how a stand of these would look amongst pines etc.

Did you use a 400mm lens (times 1.6 = 640mm) for this?
