I shot this in sunlight with a polarizing filter to darken the sky. Then I converted it to B&W in CS3 using the high contrast red filter setting to darken it even more to give the effect of a night shot.

Thanks for the comments (on both of them) everyone. I think I prefer the first as well. One extra processing detail that I forgot to mention. Before the B&W conversion in PS, I used a fairly liberal dose of highlight correction and midtone contrast using the shadow/highlight tool. This further darkened the blue sky. Alastair

This one is my preference as well but I'm not sure why. It could be that I have to strain my neck too much to look up the tree trunks in the next image ... lol? This one seems to have perhaps more 'balance' or something... (.... my explanation being about as clear as mud???) Interesting affect with the filter application. ~ Regards Melbob
