When we lived in Florida 2-8 years ago, we lived in an old orange grove that has been replanted in pines after the Big Freeze in Florida many years ago. Our land looked much like this... but not so well-maintained with the trees being limbed up so well. It's where our paper comes from. ~Lydia

the rows are so orderly because they were planted by machine. In a very few limited places here in California we can do machine planting too - but mostly it is too steep and rocky. The machine drags a furrow making a seedling-size trench and an arm swings down and plops in the seedling. A very unlucky person (tree planting season is cold and wet and miserable and the ride is rather bumpy) rides in the contraption feeding the seedlings into the arm. In this shot it looks like there is also a new row of seedlings down the center. Probably something more valuable than what looks like the jack pine (?) growing in the plantation - and the plantation is being used as a shelterwood. (In my former life I was a forester :)

I love that curved tree handing out in there - unfortunately the poor soul has probably fallen down by now as it is being suppressed and that is why it is growing all funny compared to the others.

This is a fun location - winter shots would be very cool here! Nicely Seen dave. Cindy

Lets see, yes this is for real, I have shots without the curved tree, but I don't think they have the character that this one has.
This was taken 4 or 5 years ago. It was along Lake Superior's north shore area.
I don't remember much about the shot. I had just gotten my Canon 300D with a 28-135 lens, and I wanted to try it out. We crossed some railroad tracks and found this stand of trees. I have no idea what they are used for, who planted them, or why they're so orderly.

Much more orderly than any woods I've ever walked in. Is this some kind of a tree farm, Dave? Or did you perform some digital magic? Or both? In any event, it certainly is eye-catching.

Somebody should tell that tree to behave and get back in line?

There is always one...? 'tsk' 'tsk'

Good find Dave ~ Regards Melbob
