Suuuunnnnn....Set!

...no changes, just how it came out of the camera...not even a crop...strange for me to do nothing, except I tried a flip placing the sun on the left side of the frame...damned if I know; very confusing & difficult to make these choices....lol

Oh, and some USM, contrast, saturation and levels with the magic wand...(which is almost the same as doing nothing in photoshop {laugh})

It's still a pretty picture!

Dear Bob and Penny:

Oh, I don't mind you ribbing me a little....it gives me an excuse to write about what is going on...with the image, in the image, and what I as the artist think about the image.

This is kind of fun in and of itself and is a side benefit of our respective gigglings here.

As to my equipment....truth is, it is cheap to keep me alive if it gets stolen...I won't fight for it if someone tries to snatch it by stealth or force....there always has been a purpose staying cheap and light....beyond the very real value of being cheap and light.

I just found it interesting or amazing in this day and age that people would see an old beat up XT as a professional camera. Since I do follow the introduction of cameras, what can you tell someone like this?

And there is the fact that....maybe I would like better equipment. No one has ever tired to rob me of a digital camera....but there is also the expense & weight; so I let it go.

In the final analysis, I'm not really sensitive about this...I'm having fun, doing my best, and I envy and hate all the rest of you for your superior talents, (grin and smile and back to page one)....which are real.

I mean I just look at these galleries as an enthusiast and just shake my head in joy and wonder.

Yoze should pat yourselves on the back, collectively.

And I mean that seriously.

Traveler, the most important thing is that YOU like what you do. One doesn't need the best equipment or the most talent to do a good job or to feel proud.Thanks for letting us know that you value your own work and why. And again, IMHO this is a lovely looking sunset with an interesting compositional twist.

I see your point and agree that with an understanding of what this represents given the circumstances, then this is quite a remarkable image.

I often make comments 'tongue in cheek' because one realises that the artist's impression and intention is of major importance and yet often is the case that these critical factors are not understood by the observer. Sometimes it may be obvious due to the very nature of the image but very often it is obscure for want of circumstance.

When the intentions (read:... interpretation or representation.. etc) are not clear then the observer resorts to such judgemental values such as 'likes and dislikes' or such established 'norms' such as the Rule of Thirds/Fifths' etc.

I do like this Trav, I like the colour of the sunset, the hazey band surrounding the setting sun and having read your info' re:surroundings, I can even look into the silhouette and visualise the metropolis.

.... and of course... being a mate I could not resist the temptation to give you a hard time... cos that's what mates do down here!... Its a 'cultural' thing... lol

"No, not true, I'm not a professional, I'm not even very good, I have a real and present sense, always, of my limitations. Which are manifest and legion."

"These pictures of the temples are very good, are then not?" the official insisted. "I think they are very good. And your equipment, this says you are a professional."

I sighed holding my tongue, not knowing what to say, "The pictures are barely passable, some of my work is okay, but I hang out with....really good photographers, I am humbled by them always...but I try, you know what I mean?"

The guard looked at me expectantly.

"And the equipment, well, that's about as cheap as you can buy and still call it fair to middling.

But I try with what I have, you know? It's not expensive and almost everybody has better equipment than myself," I continued.

"Well, I think your photographs are very good," the guard finished.

Sometimes I get a sense that maybe I write too forcefully...almost aggressively, but I do not mean it that way.

Just trying to be honest....which isn't that easy.

I should also add Bob, that this is shot from the center of Pasadena, California, a very large city itself and part of the greater Los Angeles Metropolis and is only 10 or so miles from downtown LA.

So, in another sense this image is remarkable in that it gives a forest-like sense of presence while being actually shot in the depths of a densely populated urban environment....and in that sense, in the sense of successfully presenting a fiction, this image is, I humbly think, supremely successful.

You know Bob, I tired a tight crop....I'll try to post it tomorrow in this thread, but I did not think it worked as well in the sense of giving a feeling of a forest with a sun setting behind this mass of trees....

In other words, the image became even more about the sunset rather than the trees that it silhouettes.

But I was in fact thinking of you when I added the PP addendum...because, well, it is know and accepted that I can't hold a candle to you in Photoshop...which is right and proper....but when I'm playing in PS, I do often think of you and your talent in this regards.

See...you're popular, people think about you, (now quit breaking your neck!)...lol

Really, you are sooooo lucky....I shutter to think of other outcomes.

Mine really... really... really... were NO pp! I mean no sat/ no Contrast adj/ no USM... no crop... or was the crap???

Bite ur tongue boy! ;-)

Now.... struggling back, this is good for its colour and silhouette but just cos 'u bin norty' I'mm gunna be extra critical.... ;-)

I would be inclined to crop the bottom one third cos it adds nothing to the image except shape ... lol SO There?
