Ahh... makes total sense to me now, Olaf. ~lydia

Yes, your opinion is the crucial one since you're the artist who created this photo! (just to clarify what I meant).

Thanks, Olaf. I'll play with it so see what you're seeing. Thanks for taking the time to mess with it. I appreciate it.

Your opinion is not any less (or more) important than mine, of course. It's just how we see things. ~Lydia

Yes, I think it looks better, but you still have a lot of unused values in the highlights. You can bring the white slider down to 222 (from 255) on the RGB-channel without any clipping. The visual result of leaving the top 30+ values unused is a somewhat dull image, but perhaps that is how you like it? perhaps because that's closer to what you saw in reality? In any case, your opinion is a lot more important than mine.

I didn't like the auto levels at all, Olaf, but did up the contrast for you a bit.
How about now? Better? ~Lydia

I think a levels adjustment would do this photo good, especially in the highlights. I tried "Auto Levels" and thought it was an improvement.

It's PART of a poplar tree... but giving an imitation of his daddy, a full-grown tree. :) ~Lydia

this isn't exactly on my list of "tree" specimens, but you get an A+ for creativity -
I like the hint of a spiderweb too! Penny Street

Very nice dying leaf picy, nice blurry bg and good colors - it looks as if it's about the last one on the tree too. :-) CJ
