hollywood starlet by Michael Puff

Aiming for the look of the classic hollywood portraits. Shot in early morning sunlight filtered through a grand old pine tree. In the spirit of this challenge, solely processed in Adobe Camera Raw 4.4.1 except for resizing and conversion to jpeg. ACR main window processing was exposure and white balance "as shot" and just the "Blacks" bumped a tiny bit. Convert to grayscale was "Auto" with the "Oranges" slider bumped to "0" to help the skin glow, tone curve done in the "Parametric" window deepening both "Shadows" and "Darks" sliders, sharpening at ACR defaults.

other sizes: small medium original auto

I'm glad we've had a clarification on the cropping rule in Exhibition because it would be a shame to exclude this photo!

Incredible image! And Yes you can crop in the Exhibition Gallery.
Is the lighting all natural? any reflectors or skims used? I've been wanting to replicate this style forever and you nailed it.
Super.

Olaf, Pops, Traveller, thank you.

Pops, on the first gallery page it says that Exhibition is exempt from the no post-processing rule. I interpretted that to mean that I could crop. If I misinterpreted the rule for Exhibition, I'll certainly post an uncropped version. I've asked Barry for clarification in the challenge thread.

Traveller, I always deeply appreciate your comments but I have to clarify with you that I really tried to stay within the challenge spirit with this image. It was shot in raw and has no post processing outside of the raw converter. The light was gorgeous. The ACR processing was minimal. The main ACR screen was left on default and only the "blacks" slider changed. The b&w conversion is auto except for an "orange" slider change. The ACR curves window had a minimal change to deepen backs. The crop was done in ACR and that's it. This is as close to "out of camera", shooting raw, as I have any desire to achieve.

I wasn't born at the time either, but, there does seem to be a heck of a lot of Post Processing going on here....I don't know how Pops knows that this was cropped...I don't want to check....lol, hee, hee, hee...I'm leaving that alone.

This image is beyond great, Michael....this is the definition of Old School....but, I may have been able to make some of Shakespeare in the park acceptable....especially the set designs; I wanted to impress you....but I had to let it go to stay within the Challenge parameters....

But I'll vote for this regardless.....lol

Best Wishes, Traveller

Fabulous photo ... but it's cropped and cropping is not allowed for this challenge.

I wasn't born at the time, but this brings me right back to the 1940's! Wonderful use of the naturally filtered lighting!
