Luxor, East Bank

Off and on, Luxor, or ancient Thebes, was a capital of the south. It reached its peak in the New Kingdom (1550-1609 BC). Waned to a village under Christian and Islamic rules and only regain its popularity by tourism. Luxor consists of three areas, Luxor town, Karnak village (3km north), and anciant Thebes on the West Bank of the Nile (monuments and necropolis).
