All the fun for Galle is its Fort area. The fort, the Portuguese started it and the Dutch rebuilt it, together with its colonial buildings is a wonderful place to walk around in the early morning or late in the evening. January 15, 2016 happened to be a religious holiday, Tamil Thai Pongal Day, and newly-weds flocked to the Fort for wedding pictures at the sunrise. A fish market, outside the old gate, is full of shiny, colorful fish, caught overnight by the fishing boats.
