Abydos was a necropolis from 4000 BC to AD 600, a time span of 4500 years. Temple of Seti I was the most important shrine to the god of the dead, Osiris. The place was also for the ancient Egyption pilgrimers to visit in their lifetime, like Mecca to Muslims today. There are seven sancturies in the temple, one for each god, Horus, Isis, Osiris, Amun-Ra, Ra-Horakhty, Ptah, and Seti. A large portion of its limestone reliefs are very well preserved.
