Having seen three Grizzlies the day before attack a herd of Muskox, I was sure that these two calves alone on the side of the road were probably now orphans. There were no adult Muskox in sight( I made sure before I got out of the car). When I asked some of the natives back in Nome if anything should be done for the calves, they said not to worry. Some of the adult Muskox have gotten smart and now leave their young by the roadside while they go off to forage. Apparently, the bears don't go near the roads during the day.
