Visiting CUBA is taking a step back in time. The Cubans have had hard times and are just starting to have their lives improve. Take a look at the Havana of today: you will see some restored buildings and others that are not. You will notice, as you possibly already know, that they love their 1950s US automobiles and lovingly take care of them; often they are "paraded" about, hoping to be hired for a ride. The people are friendly, the food terrific (and cheap), and we heard excellent lectures that opened our eyes and hearts. Put Cuba on your travel list.
