Where my grandfather visited EVERY DAY. He was a bookies runner, having decided after his WW1 experiences[ Coldstream Guards and an MM] that he would never work for 'capitalism' again! A few times [aged about 7/8 ] I carried the leather bag with its very accurate watch integrated that held the bets for a race-just in case my granddad was stopped! He never spoke to me for a couple of years after I enlisted as a regular in THE R.A.F. however on seeing me in uniform for the first time I was--the first family memeber ever-invited into the Travellers Rest where I met many WW! veterans---1953-[?]
