The Malborough Bunker

In the 1950's this bunker was constructed on the site of a WW 2 airfield (RAF Hope Cove) between Malborough and Salcombe, S. Devon. Originally a radar tracking station but also became a centre for regional government in the event of nuclear war.

Much of the current bunker is exactly as it was left when decommissioned and sold. But now, it also houses a display of maritime history including an extensive collection of old outboard motors. A small selection of which is shown in these photos.

This bunker is open to the public on selected days during the summer. A small airstrip remains for the use of a few amateur pilots.

ps. These are quick hand held shots, with flash. I didn't have an opportunity to take as much time and care as I would have wished.
