One of the earliest Fender Custom Shop guitars, this Strat was ordered in June 1987, allocated work order number 0018 and shipped in March 1988. It is a '57 Mary Kaye Strat with Gold hardware and extra hot Texas Special pickups. The neck is by Michael Stevens and Richard Syarto, the body by John Page. Michael Stevens and John Page were the two originators of the Fender Custom Shop in 1987. This is the first guitar to be built by the Custom Shop directly for the retail market. The first batch of Custom Shop guitars, prior to this, one were built for Artists and Fender Management.
Josh, thanks for your message. Pictures would be great. I've emailed you direct.

I have an '83 custom made guitar by Richard Syarto. This was before he built Richelieu guitars. Though he went on to work for Fender, this guitar looks and sounds like a cross between an SG and Les Paul, mahogany body, neck thru. Let me know if you want to see some pictures of it.
Hi Clayton,
Thanks for your message. Your guitar does sound nice, complete with hardtail! I'm afraid I can't help you myself but have you tried calling Fender Customer Relations? They should be able to give you some background information about your guitar. Good luck,
Steve

Hi Crumblebum,
Thanks a lot for posting the pictures. That's a wonderful guitar you have. Duchossoir talks about it on his book Fender Stratocaster. There were only 1000 produced (500 like yours).
Congratulations!
Hi Marco,
There you go. SN 0050 and reportedly the first CS guitar that was built for the general public. The few that came before it were built for artists and Fender management staff.

Ok. So mine I guess must be just a regular 1988 white blonde 62 reissue. I guess the salesman fooled me :) Would you mind posting a picture of the logo or even send it to me by e-mail (marcofilho@hotmail)? Sorry for bothering.

Hi. I own a Mary Kaye '62 and someone told me it was produced by Custom Shop but mine doesn't have the Custom Shop logo on the back of the headstock. What about yours, does it have the logo?
Thank you.
Marco
