St Kilda Archipeligo, Hirta and Boreray 19th June 2005

On the afternoon of 18th June we left Barra for the St Kilda Archipeligo arriving in Village Bay at 0630 on the 19th June after sailing 80 miles. We slept for several hours and then disembarked by dingy to Hirta, the main island. Unfortunately the weather was overcast but it was just a pleasure and priviledge to be there at all! These photos are a record of our visit to these remarkable islands.

I hope you enjoy these photos and might visit St Kilda yourselves!
A fascinating online insight into life on St Kilda may be seen at the Glasgow University Digital Archives. A book entitled 'With Nature and a Camera' chapters 1-3 contains many photos and a wonderful text written in 1897 by one Richard Kearton. Please have a read!!
