Mink frog - Rana septentrionalis

Mink Frog -- adult in small pond

An adult Mink Frog resting quietly at the edge of a large puddle. The frog had just hopped out of a flooded beaver pond to the right of the trail. Quite uncharacteristicly, this particular frog remained very still, allowing me a rare chance to photograph this species. It then sprang away into the puddle to float around with a half-dozen smaller, younger Mink Frogs that remained submerged but watchful -- only their eyes visible above the murky water.

Sabine - Thanks! I don't get many chances to get this close to a Mink Frog as they are usually shy compared to some of the other species. This one was in an area where very few people ever go, so that might be why it didn't seem too nervous. I consider it a "lucky shot"!
