Sissinghurst not-really-a Castle

although a moated medieval fortified manor house in origin, it has never really been a castle except possibly around 1760 when it was leased to government to house prisoners of war and nearly wrecked. Its present character derives from ownership by Vita Sackville West and Hrold Nicholson from 1930 when it got re-humanised and complemented by spectacular gardens ( https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1000181
