Sagrada Familia - Gaudi gallery 2

The Catalan architect Antonio Gaudi is mostly known as a creator of unusual and colourful forms. However he did not do this in the way a modern artist might, but founded from below on the skills of practical masons taking medieval masonry skills to new limits. 'From above' he was also a a devotional and original Christian thinker. Also less known is that he worked very much in a team and not as an individual 'prima donna'. The 'expiatory church' know as the Sagrada Familia took up the last half of his life yet remained unfinished. Some boring attempts to return to 'gothic' were made in the 1930s, but only recently has the attempt been made to continue in the spirit of his work, not ape older forms. At the time these shots were taken, you were visiting a vibrant workshop taking masonry to new and profound regions of expression
