Scotland - The Road to the Isles

The Poltallock estate is about 5000 acres (2000ha) without a road, only animal tracks with the sea to the west. Duntrune castle is meant to be one of the longest continually inhabited in UK and has a few small holiday lets allowing one a chance to get a hundred feet above the Sound of Jura in 5 minutes from the supper table (as of 2012, now 1/2 hour). The estate passed from the Campbells to the Malcolms and a major house was built near Kilmartin, but apparently abandoned in the 1950s and now a shell. Robin M fell out with his brother (or maybe this was a generation back) and moved to Duntrune, while the other brother moved to Old Poltallock thus at S & N extremities

Carnassarie Castle follows; although not part of the Poltallock estate, it commands the north end of Kilmartin Glen

Postposting Dec 2014: I have chosen this gallery to re-open as I never posted half of what I shot on previous years May hols. A few extra pics 2019 on what will have to be my final visit
