Levant mine & Mitchell 1840 working beam engine

This is worth a morning on a rainy day. If you arrive at 11am sharp, you can have it nearly to yourself until the 11.30 tour gets underway and engulfs you. http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/levant-mine

There is enough left in place and illustrated to obtain a chilling picture of what working here was like and enough greasy iron and shiny brass to keep a camera well fed

PS earlier blurb calling this a Trevithick engine was wrong; it was restored by the Trevithic Society, but is a Mitchell 'rotative beam engine' see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beam_engine of 1840
