Gearing for rotating the shutter and optics

South Foreland, Dover

each lighthouse has a unique sequence of light and dark timing; this is achieved by a weight driven clockwork mechanism. The optics/shutter drum is mounted in a mercury bath so there is minimal friction and bells warn the keeper when the weights need lifting

other sizes: small medium large original auto
