south west transept

My personal revelatory experience at Ely was that we get a glimpse of fully extended Romanesque architecture as it was at the end of the C12th before it was overwhelmed by 'perpendicular'=pointy-arched gothic. The scale and interesting inventive content is breathtaking.

Here in the transept we also have the ceiling fairly nearly as it would have been, probably less elaborately decorated then, whereas when we move to the nave the original is confused by the C19th restoration ceiling
