The background was the taken into paint and then I experimented with one the brushes chosing one to get the oil like brushwork. Back in Photoshop I used the filter "custom" to get the edges of the woman's clothing. I used a mask with a gradient on the man, duplicating the head and hands so that they were slightly emphasized. After adding all kinds of extras, then deleting them, I ended up with this simple portrait.
