I used all or part of three of the given images: the avian crane, the wood with water drops, and the horse (just the grassy lower edge of this one). My background layer was the phiSpiral for a guide. I inserted the wood, extracted the crane and dropped him on top, resizing him to fit. I layered the crane to adjust the brightness of the bird. Then I started on the wood. First I applied the Twirl filter from the Distort menu and located the central curve so that it coincided with the center of the phiSpiral. I got as close an approximation of the spiral as I could, editing with free transform, and gave the crane a drop shadow. Then I set it aside to simmer a bit, while I considered how I was going to finish up transforming a symetrical spiral to the correct contour. Today, I decided to try the Warp transformation, and used it to bring the sweep of the wood grain into conformity with the guide. Finally, to give the crane something to stand on, I imported a thin strip of the grass in the horse picture and used Liquify to spread it about so there was enough "ground" for the crane's feet. A duplicate of that layer set to multiply finally made me satisfied with the result.
