01 January - New Year Pheasant

A perfect day for a New Year walk with friends Fiona and David, and a chance to burn-off some of those Christmas calories.
There was no rain, just sunshine for a change.

Along the way we came across this brightly marked pheasant. I've never seen one like it before and haven't been able to identify it yet.

*** Update - possibly a Reeves' Pheasant ***

A bonus piccie to show that the rain clouds had cleared.

Hello Brian, Very nice shot of the King Pheasant: I was looking for this breed of pheasant and founded :
see :http://parkvogeltuin.come2me.nl/mijn-eigen-fazanten-1/
and look down to Koningsfazanten - under the 3 pictures you find a text, copy these on google translate (from Dutch(nederlands) to English) and you will have some info!! V+++++++++++

a very striking bird - meets the description of a Reeve's, though no pic in my Collin's guide. Says its a Chinese intro to Europe that can breed in the wild and seems to have arrived in England.

now that's strutting your stuff...quick-witted shot of this quixotic skulker...V

It is, indeed, a Reeves'(s)... -- should be called a Samuel's, though: as I've never seen one in the flesh...! Fantastic capture...! (Always thought they looked a bit like the Lone Ranger, or a bank robber, with that 'mask'...!)
